The project
Each tread of the Oriel stair carries the one above it. After a small earthquake, three of them had cracked.
We replaced them with stone from the same quarry, cut by hand, and threaded a steel tendon through the core where no visitor will ever see it.
The stair reopened in spring 2022. It now carries eight hundred visitors a day.

How it was made
Every decision came with a drawing and a price, agreed before the stone was cut.
